Great honor for retiring Executive Director Hartmut Kardaetz
Sochi (pps) At the end of the 58th Congress of the International Luge Federation (FIL) held in Sochi, Russia, Hartmut Kardaetz, the retiring FIL Executive Director, received a special honor. At his last Congress in this position, FIL President Josef Fendt presented the 66 year-old with the FIL's Medal of Honor in Gold.
Kardaetz began working for the FIL 17 years ago. He significantly contributed to the formation of the FIL Office opened in Berchtesgaden in 1993, and shaped its work with his expert knowledge. His successor Christoph Schweiger will become acquainted with his new range of duty working together with Executive Director Hartmut Kardaetz beginning July 1. At the end of August or beginning of September Kardaetz will retire from the FIL and return to his home city of Berlin together with his wife.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the International Luge Federation has published a three-volume book set on FIL history, statistics and memorabilia. The book can be purchsed through the publishing house Egon Theiner Verlag.
