TESTING & INTELLIGENCE

The aim of testing is to detect and deter doping among athletes to protect clean athletes.

Any athlete under the testing jurisdiction of the FIL may be tested at any time, with no advance notice, in- or out-of-competition, and be required to provide a urine sample.

WHAT ARE TESTING POOLS AND WHY ARE WHEREABOUTS IMPORTANT FOR CLEAN SPORT?

No-advance notice out-of-competition testing is one of the most powerful means of deterrence and detection of doping. To support this type of testing, FIL has created an International Registered Testing Pool as part of its testing program.

Certain athletes in the FIL Registered Testing Pool are required to provide information on their whereabouts in ADAMS, WADA’s online anti-doping administration and management system.

Each year, the Registered Testing Pool of the FIL is reviewed according to the Overall World Cup standing of the previous season. The testing pool includes the 20 best men, 15 best women and 10 best doubles according to the Overall World Cup Standing and starts on April 1 and ends on March 31 of the next year.

Should an athlete retire from the sport of luge, he/she has to send an official notification to the FIL office (office@fil-luge.org). For RTP athletes, as soon as the retirement is officially confirmed to FIL, the athlete will be withdrawn from the FIL RTP with immediate effect. If an athlete wishes to resume competing, they will not be able to do so until they have given FIL written notice of their intent to resume competing and made themselves available for testing for a period of six months.

WHAT DO RTP ATHLETES NEED TO KNOW?

As athlete of the FIL Registered Testing Pool the athlete is obliged to be available for doping controls at all times and has to provide his/her up-to-date whereabouts information. We recommend to submit the whereabouts information by the 15th of the last month before the beginning of the new quarter. At the latest, the whereabouts must be provided by the last day before the beginning of the new quarter. If the whereabouts are not submitted by the last day before the new quarter, official warning proceedings against the athlete will be initiated without any previous notification. Should the athlete has or anticipate having difficulties in entering whereabouts on time, we ask the athlete to notify the FIL office in a timely manner before the new quarter begins in order to avoid initiating official warning proceedings against the athlete as well as the possibility of receiving an official warning.

HOW DO ATHLETES KNOW THEY NEED TO PROVIDE WHEREABOUTS?

Athletes who need to provide whereabouts in ADAMS for FIL are notified by the FIL of their inclusion in the FIL Internatonal Registered Testing Pool (RTP) as well as what information exactly is required of them, how to use ADAMS, deadlines to submit this information and any consequences if the information required is not submitted.
