Calgary (pps) The luge federations of Tonga, the USA and Canada will compete at the première of the “American-Pacific Championships” on the 1988 Olympic track in Calgary next weekend (December 16-17). The titles will be awarded after a “race-in-race” competition within the Viessmann Luge World Cup. According to FIL regulations four lugers in the men’s and women’s singles each as well as three doubles per nation are eligible. Should Bruno Banani, sole starter for Tonga, fail to qualify for the Viessmann Luge World Cup he will not be ranked in the American-Pacific Championships either. However, the Latvian luge team will not compete in Calgary. Finishing in 19th position in Whistler Banani narrowly failed to qualify for the Viessmann Luge World Cup.
