Final World Cup: Only the men’s event is still waiting for a winner

Joska Weltpokal

Altenberg (RWH): After one of the most unpredictable seasons in the history of the Viessmann World Cup, the men’s event is the only discipline that has yet to find a winner ahead of the season finale. All other disciplines produced champions for the Joska crystal trophy a long time before the 9th and final Viessmann World Cup event in Altenberg this weekend (February 25-26, 2017).

In the women’s event, the title was awarded to Natalie Geisenberger for the fifth time, bringing her level with record-breaking winners Silke Kraushaar-Pielach and Tatjana Hüfner (both GER). In the doubles event, the World Champions Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken took the title from the Olympic champions Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt.

And the German quartet, won the Viessmann Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW for the seventh consecutive time. In the men’s event, the Russian Roman Repilov could theoretically still lose his place at the top of the standings. The two-time Junior World Champion and this year’s runner-up in the World Championships currently leads the overall standings in the Viessmann World Cup with 745 points ahead of his teammate Semen Pavlichenko (674 points) and Felix Loch (663) of Germany. Wolfgang Kindl (654) follows in fourth place ahead of the winner in PyeongChang Dominik Fischnaller (501).
