44th FIL Luge World Championships in Whistler the season’s highlight Berchtesgaden (pps) The 44th Luge World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Whistler (Canada, February 1-2, 2013) are the absolute highlight of the upcoming season. Additionally, there are nine Viessmann Luge World Cup events in six countries. These are the benchmarks of the 2012-2013 Sports Calendar that was confirmed by the FIL Executive Committee. The Viessmann Luge World Cup in the FIL Team Relay Event, for the first time part of Olympic Winter Games programme in Sochi in 2014, comprises a total of six events (Innsbruck-Igls, Altenberg, Sigulda, Koenigssee, Lake Placid, Sochi). Traditionally, the new luge season will kick off in Innsbruck-Igls with the Viessmann Luge World Cup on November 24-25, 2012. The World Cup events in Cesana (Italy, December 1-2, 2012), Altenberg (Germany, December 8-9, 2012) as well as in Sigulda (Latvia, December 15-16) will be carried out prior to the Christmas break. The international luge elite will then meet again for the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Koenigssee on January 5-6, 2013. Oberhof (January 12-13, 2013) will be the venue of the sixth World Cup stop. The World Cup circuit then stops in Winterberg on January 19-20, 2013. After the 44th FIL Luge World Championships in Whistler, the World Cup series will be setting up shop in Lake Placid (USA) on February 8-9, 2013. The Viessmann Luge World Cup season then concludes with the Olympic test on the new luge track in Sochi (Russia, February 23-24, 2013). Venue of the 28th FIL Luge Junior World Championships will be Park City (USA, January 15-16, 2013). The young luge talents will have the chance to compete in a further six Junior World Cup events: Lillehammer (NOR), Koenigssee (GER), Calgary (CAN), Oberhof (GER), Innsbruck-Igls (AUT) and Winterberg (GER).
