Sliding sports mourn Günter Gscheidlinger

Günter Gscheidlinger

Berchtesgaden (RWH) The international and German sliding sports community is mourning Günter Gscheidlinger. The long-standing director of the German sports association passed away on 22 April at the age of 79.

In Günter Gscheidlinger, the Olympic sliding sports (luge, bobsleigh and skeleton) lost a recognised expert, outstanding organiser of major ice track events, and long-sighted sports official. Gscheidlinger also made his name as an authority on local Berchtesgaden history and a tireless organiser of charitable events. Born in Passau, Gscheidlinger was awarded the German Order of Merit in 1986 and spent 40 years steering the fortunes of the German sports association (formerly known as DBSV, now BSD).
