According to Atis Strenga, President of Latvian Luge Federation, the Latvian government approved plans for cooperation between the National Olympic Committees of the two countries, the city of Sigulda and the operator of the artificial ice track. At the same time, it will be examined which renovation works would be necessary in Sigulda in case of a successful Stockholm 2026 bid.

Stockholm and Riga, the capitals of Sweden and Latvia, are located about 500 kilometres apart on the Baltic Sea coast. From Riga to Sigulda it is about 50 km. On the candidate list of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the 2026 Winter Games are Sweden with Stockholm, Austria with Graz / Schladming, Italy with Turin and Milan, Turkey with Erzurum, Canada with Calgary, and Japan with Sapporo. The decision will be made in autumn 2019.
