Anniversary in Innsbruck-Igls

Loch, Huefner and Linger-Linger last year’s winners

Innsbruck-Igls (pps) The 1964 and 1976 Olympic luge track in Innsbruck-Igls will not only host the season opener of the 35th World Cup series but will also carry out its 30th Viessmann Luge World Cup event.

Last winter, the winners on the artificially refrigerated track at the foot of the Patscherkofel Mountain were the two German Olympic champions Tatjana Huefner and Felix Loch in the women’s and men’s singles respectively. At that time Huefner defeated compatriot Natalie Geisenberger as well as the 2009 World champion Erin Hamlin (USA). Felix Loch got the better of team-mate David Moeller and Italy’s Armin Zoeggeler. But Austria then capitalised on its home advantage in the doubles’ when the 2006 and 2010 Olympic champions Andreas and Wolfgang Linger were able to secure the top spot on the podium ahead of Italy’s Christian Oberstolz-Patrick Gruber as well as their team-mates Peter Penz-Georg Fischler. Germany’s team with Tatjana Huefner, Andi Langenhahn and Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt won the first of the altogether six Team Relay events, ahead of Canada and Italy.
