Start heights to be lowered in Paramonovo to further enhance safety

Paramonovo (pps) Ahead of the final in the Viessmann Luge World Cup series as well as the 43rd Luge World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL) next weekend (February 25-26, 2012), the start heights of the track in Paramonovo, Russia, will be lowered to further enhance safety. This decision was taken in agreement with all parties involved on site in Paramonovo.

Accordingly, the races in the men’s singles will commence from the women’s start; the women and doubles teams will start from the junior’s start. Most probably, the Team Relay Event at the European Luge Championships will also be started from the junior’s start gate.

The artificially refrigerated track in Paramonovo, situated about 80 kilometres (approximately 50 miles) away from Moscow, celebrated its international debut with the Viessmann Luge World Cup event last year.

The track’s special feature is the innovative cooling system. Those responsible in Paramonovo decided, not least because of the strict laws in Russia that do not allow ammonia-based outdoor cooling systems, on using an ammonia CO2 cascade system with three cooling circuits.
