Disciplines

FIL competitions are carried out in the following disciplines:

Competition Runs

Eligibilty

Seeded Groups

Seeded groups start in all disciplines of the FIL competitions (except in the team competition).

The positions in the seeded groups result from the point rankings of the three previous World Cup races.

In all disciplines, the 1st run will start in the order of the current seeded list as follows:

Start Order at World Cups

 

 

The World Cup races start with a qualification run. This run must be taken by all participants except athletes in the seeded group A. The start order arises from the current list of seeded groups, best place to last place. Athletes that do not come from the seeded list will be placed at the end of the start list. The best 15 men, 12 women and 7 doubles are qualified for the additional participation at World Cup races.

The ranking during the team competition is done according to the total cumulative time of the three sleds.

Supplemental Weights

Additional weights may be carried in singles' competitions for women, men, junior women, junior men, youth A men and women, as well as in doubles, general class and juniors.

Artificial Tracks

Artificial tracks are luge tracks which have been specially constructed for the sport of luge.
A difference is made between artificial luge tracks with or without refrigeration system.

Artificial tracks are commissioned by the FIL Technical Commission.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the International Luge Federation has published a three-volume book set on FIL history, statistics and memorabilia.

:: Donation account for Mizoguchi

The International Luge Federation has opened a donation account for the Brazilian athlete Renato Mizoguchi who seriously crashed on the Olympic luge track in Torino on January 30, 2005. After his crash, Renato had to end his luge career. His health, which has not yet completely restored, has also resulted in financial problems for him.
