100 days until the 52nd FIL Luge World Championships in Altenberg

Altenberg (FIL/12 Oct 2023) Exactly 100 days from now, the 52nd FIL Luge World Championships 2024 will start in Altenberg, Germany.

The ice training at the SachsenEnergie Track in Altenberg will start within the next days. The starting signal for the icing of the luge and bobsleigh track (RSBB) in the Eastern Ore Mountains was given punctually at 6 p.m. last Sunday, when ice master Ralf Mende switched on the refrigeration machines for the 41st time in wintry temperatures and light snowfall. By the end of this week, the track will be ready for the first training runs of the season.

In the last week of January 2024, the 52nd FIL Luge World Championships will be held at the SachsenEnergie-Eiskanal. The World Championship’s Opening Ceremony will take place on January 25, 2024 at 7:00 pm on the stage of the Winter Village near the Altenberg ski slope. Over the next three days, luge athletes from around 25 nations will compete for the World Championship titles on one of the most challenging artificially iced tracks in the world.

On Friday, January 26, 2024, the Sprint World Championships will be held at 1:00 pm. Hundreds of school children from Altenberg and the surrounding area will cheer on the athletes during the Sprint Qualification in the morning.

Saturday, January 27, 2024, will start with the women's doubles at 8:50 am. The men's singles will begin at 11:00 am and the men's doubles will compete for World Championship medals from 2:00 pm. On Sunday, January 28, 2024, the women's singles will start at 10:45 am, before the big World Championships finals take place at 2:00 pm. with the team relay. 

Cups and medals will be awarded to the top finishers at the World Championships Victory Ceremonies on Friday and Saturday at 6 pm on the stage in the Altenberg Winter Village. Afterwards, athletes, fans and guests can celebrate together in the party tent.

World Championships tickets in advance and VVO combo ticket

Tickets for all training days and World Championships races are available in advance. The online ticket shop can be found at www.wm-altenberg.de . World Championships tickets are also available at the Tourist Information at the Altenberg train station.

In cooperation with the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) and the Regionalverkehr Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge (RVSOE), all tickets purchased in advance are also valid as tickets for the 2024 Luge World Championships on the day of the event in all means of public transport in the entire VVO region (except special means of transport).
