Beijing (sid) The decision on the host city of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games will be made in Durban, South Africa, in July 2011. This was decided by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at its 120th Session in Beijing.
In Durban, a city of 3.5 million inhabitants, which will also be venue of football games of the 2010 World Cup, defeated Hong Kong for the right to host the 123rd IOC Session in 2011. It will be the first IOC Session ever in Africa.
Munich (GER) has already announced its bid to host the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Other candidates could be Tromö in Norway or Pyeongchang, South Korea, which already filed two unsuccessful bids. Applications can be submitted to the IOC by October 2009.
