World Junior Championships at the luge track in Innsbruck/ Austria
The artificial ice track located at the foot of the Patscherkofel mountain in Innsbruck/ Igls has been in operation for 27 years now. During this time it has been the venue of numerous international competitions in artificial track luge. Since 1989, the "Tiroler Rodel ARGE" has been responsible for the organization of the races in Igls and in particular of two World Junior Championships.
From January 28 to February 3, 2002, the world´s most talented young athletes will compete in Innsbruck for the third time.
90 sleds from 18 nations are registered to participate in the competition. In spite of the heavy rainfall on Monday, the track is in perfect condition, so that the fight for the medal ranks will surely be exciting.
As they have done in the past, the organizers invited many schools to come to the track during the competition days, especially from the places in which the Austrian athletes went to school.
