Rio de Janeiro / Brazil (pps) During its 52nd Congress in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) this weekend, the International Luge Federation, FIL, allocated the 40th World Championships 2008 to Oberhof, Germany. Oberhof will thus host World Championships for the second time after 1985. The 2008 European Championships were allocated to Torino, Italy, with its Olympic track for the 2006 Winter Games. Lake Placid, USA, will organise the 2007 World Junior Championships and Torino the 2008 World Junior Championships. Later Torino and Lake Placid changed the events. So now the Juniors Worlds will be held at Torini 2007 and at Lake Placid in 2008. With Winterberg as venue for the 2006 Europeans and Innsbruck-Igls as organisers of the 2007 World Championships, the season’s highlights have already been determined at the 51st FIL Congress. The track in Oberhof experienced splendid Europeans last winter with almost 10,000 spectators on the three competition days and exceptionally good TV ratings with a market share of approximately 25 per-cent in Germany. The artificial track for the Olympic Winter Games in Torino is being build in Cesana Torinese. At the end of December 2004 the homologation by the FIL Technical Commission will be carried out. The Olympic test, simultaneously final of the Viessmann Luge World Cup, will be organised on February 4-6, 2005.
