Berchtesgaden (pps) At the 1st Youth Olympic Winter Games 2012 in Innsbruck (AUT), 70 luge athletes born in 1994/1995 will be allowed to compete in four disciplines. This was confirmed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and reported at the Executive Board meeting of the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Berchtesgaden.
At the first edition of the Youth Olympic Winter Games in the Olympic city of 1964 and 1976, medals will be awarded in women’s singles, men’s singles, doubles and in the team relay. 20 women, 20 men and 15 doubles will be eligible to start.
The IOC will confirm the qualification criteria at the beginning of December 2009. The sport and youth divisions of the FIL are currently working on the FIL’s proposals. The FIL is currently negotiating a way to present natural track luge as part of the cultural program.
