26 National Federations at the YOG in Korea

Gangwon (FIL/19 Dec 2023) 26 National Federations of the International Luge Federation (FIL) from four continents have qualified at least one sled for the fourth Youth Olympic Winter Games in Gangwon, South Korea (January 19 to February 1, 2024). Some nations will be making their luge debut at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

The Chairman of the FIL Youth Commission, Hans-Jürgen Köhnes, commented on the results of the qualification races (Youth A World Cups) in luge: "It is especially pleasing that nations such as New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, China and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean are represented and have managed to qualify. This means that young lugers from 26 nations and four continents will be represented at the Youth Olympic Games in Korea."

The YOG Gangwon 2024 will feature 31 young women, 23 men, 14 men's doubles and ten women's doubles. Ten National Federations have qualified in three Olympic disciplines and will therefore be able to field their own team in the Team Relay event.

Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) must now confirm their starting places and name them later. After the conclusion of the qualification competitions (World Cups for A-youth), the following nations will be represented with at least one sled at the first Winter Youth Olympic Games in Asia: Austria (AUT), Bulgaria (BUL), Canada (CAN), China (CHN), Czech Republic (CZE), France (FRA), Great Britain (GBR), Georgia (GEO), Germany (GER), Ireland (IRL), Italy (ITA), Korea (KOR), Latvia (LAT), Netherlands (NED), Norway (NOR), New Zealand (NZL), Poland (POL), Puerto Rico (PUR), Romania (ROU), Slovenia (SLO), Slovakia (SVK), Sweden (SWE), Thailand (THA), Chinese Taipei (TPE), Ukraine (UKR) and the United States of America (USA).

The luge competition schedule for the YOG (Youth Olympic Games) Gangwon 2024 is as follows

January 15, 2024: Systematic training
January 16-19, 2024: Official training
January 20, 2024: Women's singles and men's doubles
January 21, 2024: Men's singles and women's doubles
January 22, 2024: Official Training Team Relay
January 23, 2024: Team Relay
