Smooth start of the International Training Week Sochi (pps) The 2014 Olympic Games adventure started in curve eight. At the first International Training Week on the future Olympic luge track for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, all athletes from 26 participating nations started from the lowest height for safety reasons. This is in line with the rules of the International Luge Federation (FIL). The International Training Week that is part of the homologation process of the new luge track will conclude on November 14, 2012. During the ITW all athletes are slowly and systematically introduced to the track and the different start heights. This is how they are getting to know the curves of the ice labyrinth at ever increasing speeds. The “Sliding Center Sanki” is situated at an altitude of 1.250 meters in Rzhanaya Polyana in the Western Caucasus, about 60 kilometers northeast of Sochi, where the 2014 Olympic bobsleigh, skeleton and luge events will be carried out. The Viessmann Luge World Cup event in Innsbruck-Igls (Austria) on November 24-25, 2012 marks the official start to the new luge season.
