Max Langenhan takes advantage of the ice in the sprint

BMW Sprint Men, Winterberg

Winterberg (FIL): First at the BMW Sprint World Cup in Winterberg: Max Langenhan claimed his first victory in the EBERSPÄCHER World Cup. However, the 21-year-old Junior World Champion of 2019 benefited from the fact that the ice had become worse and worse. With this first success, Felix Loch's winning streak has been snapped. The World Cup leader only finished fifth. As if the 13-time World Champion had suspected it, he had put the brakes on emerging euphoria in the television interview that he, as the leader at the halfway point, had as good as secured his seventh success in the overall World Cup. As his big goal, the three-time Olympic champion said: "At the home World Championships, I would also like to be at the top. This will take place at the end of January at Königssee. Behind Langenhan, the two Italians Kevin and Dominik Fischnaller took the other podium places.

In the women's race, Natalie Geisenberger again failed to score victory number 50. As on Saturday, Julia Taubitz was 0.174 seconds faster in the sprint. "Almost two tenths - that's really cool," cheered the 24-year-old overall World Cup winner, "the run was really nice." Nevertheless, Geisenberger's consistency after her baby break is impressive: the seven-time overall World Cup winner finished second in all six races. Dajana Eitberger managed a small redemption. After finishing 13th in Saturday's EBERSPÄCHER World Cup, she managed third place in the sprint. "This is a conciliatory end," said the Oberhof winner, "I am satisfied."

In the doubles, the three-way fight at the top continues. One day after the 45th World Cup victory of Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt (Germany), their teammates Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken followed suit and won the sprint. "It was exciting yesterday, that's when we saw it wasn't enough," said leader Eggert, "it was nice to see that what we changed made a difference." Between the two German duos came Thomas Steu/Lorenz Koller, the leaders in the overall World Cup. "Today more would have been possible, we got lost very often," Steu was a little annoyed.
