SEISER ALM/ALPE DI SIUSI. The second event of the Junior Luge World Cup 2017/2018 was held from January 3rd to 4th at the Seiser Alm/Alpe di Siusi in Italy. 98 athletes from 20 different countries attended the races, among them lugers from Argentina, Brazil, USA, and New Zealand. For obvious reasons, Evi Mitterstieler from the International Luge Federation (FIL), who is responsible for the Development of Luge on Natural Track, was happy: "With the Junior Luge World Cup, we aim to improve the youth work and the mutual exchange. We want to give young athletes the opportunity to measure themselves against others on an international level." The fact that so many young lugers take this opportunity proves the relevance of the Junior Series of the World Cup.

At the Seiser Alm/Alpe di Siusi, Fabian Achenrainer (AUT) won the competition of the men: The Austrian, who had been the runner-up to his compatriot Florian Markt at the kickoff event in Obdach-Winterleiten (AUT), won the race ahead of Laurin Jakob Kompatscher (ITA) and Markt, who came in third this time.
At the women’s event, the Italian athletes dominated once again: In the end, Nadine Staffler (ITA) emerged victorious, followed by her teammates Christa Unterholzner and Daniela Mittermair, who had won the first race of this season’s Junior World Cup.
At the doubles’ event, the podium looked the same as in Obdach-Winterleiten: Fabian Achenrainer/Miguel Brugger (AUT) won their second race in a row, the Germans Josef Limmer/Simon Dietz came in second, and Kirill Kravchuk/Aleksandr Zyrianov from Russia ranked third.
The next competition of the Junior Luge World Cup season 2017/2018 will take place from January 13th to 14th in St. Sebastian (AUT).
