Novouralsk (ck) - Before the world cup comes to its final showdown, the juniors have got a trip to Siberia on their schedule. In Novouralsk, a little bit east of the Urals, this weekend the European Championships for the age category under 20 will be held. Eligible is anybody who is not 20 yet or has been 20 in the first weeks of 2013. This means that none of the title defenders will be seen in the competition, as Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) as well as Alex Gruber (ITA) have grown out of the junior age. Greta Pinggera (ITA) though, who knew to impress in the world cup and is currently placed second in the overall ranking, is still a junior. Also Theresa Maurer (GER), only 14 years old, has had the one or the other astonishing run in the world cup already and her performance will be watched closely. Michaela Niemetz, also from the constantly improving German team, is also still a junior. In the junior men’s race Christoph Regensburger (AUT) can race for medals one last year. The doubleseater junior world champion, together with Dominik Holzknecht, has meanwhile established himself also in the singles event and can be counted as one of the title contenders. Strong competition can – as always – be expected from Italy, but also Russia will have a string team in their home event. The competition runs in Novouralsk will start Saturday from 10am. As in all championships, three runs will be held in the single events, two runs for doubles.
