Park City (pps) USA`s Mark Grimmette/Brian Martin, 1998 and 2002 silver medalists at the Winter Olympics 1998 and 2002, celebrated an impressive comeback in Viessmann Luge World Cup. Due to a injury of Grimmette, they missed the first three races, but the defending World Cup Champions won on their hometrack in Park City their first race of the season. It was the ninth World Cup victory for Grimmette/Martin.
They finished in a total time one minute 28,055 seconds followed by Germany`s Olympic Champions Patric Leitner/Alexander Resch (one minute 28,253 seconds) and Andre Florschütz/Torsten Wustlich (one minute 28,314 seconds), also from Germany.
Leitner/Resch took the lead in the Overall World Cup with 301 points ahead of Austria`s Andreas Linger/Wolfgang Linger (294), who finished only ninth on the olympic track of 2002. On third place are now Italy`s Christian Oberstolz/Patrick Gruber (275).
Quotes:
Mark Grimmette (Olympic silver medalist 1998 and 2002 ):
„That was pretty good. We know, that the start wasn`t our strongest point in this race. So we focused on a very good aerodynamic and good runs. During warm-up, now walk up the hill – instead of running up the hill like in former times.”
Alexander Resch (Olympic Champion 2002):
„It is always very difficult, to beat Grimmette/Martin on their hometrack. It doesn`t matter, in which conditions they are. Compared to former years the track today was a little bit bumby. But now we are in the lead in the overall standings. And the tracks we like most are still coming.”
Torsten Wustlich (World Champion 2001):
„We are very satisfied with 3rd place and the victory in Challenge Cup. Don`t forget, we have three runs more than Grimmette/Martin, who have not been qualifiend for the Challenge Cup. “
