Calgary (pps) The 41st World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Lake Placid in the US state of New York will represent the highlight of the 2008/2009 events schedule, which was now approved by the FIL Executive Board at their meeting held in Calgary, Canada. This major event will take place from February 6 to 8, 2009.

Furthermore, the events schedule comprises nine Viessmann World Cups in five different countries on two continents, the first of which will be staged in Innsbruck-Igls (Austria) on the last weekend of November. After World Cup events in Sigulda (Latvia), Winterberg, Königssee (both Germany), Cesana (Italy), Oberhof, Altenberg (both Germany) and Calgary (Canada), the Olympic test at the track in Whistler Mountain (Canada) for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver will also be the final of the World Cup series. Other events on the program are four SUZUKI Relays in Sigulda, Winterberg, Königssee and Oberhof as well as four SUZUKI Challenge Cups in Innsbruck-Igls, Cesana, Altenberg and Calgary.
