Record World Champion Armin Zoeggeler will not compete Lana (pps) Record World Champion Armin Zoeggeler, of Italy, will not compete at the 44th World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Whistler, Canada on February 1-2, 2013. Just one Week prior to the Opening Ceremony of the Worlds with four luge events, the 39-year old had to cancel due to back problems. Zoeggeler has competed in all World Championships since 1993 when he claimed a fifth-place result at the age of 19. The two-time Olympic Champion (2002 and 2006), who additionally earned one silver medal (1998) and two bronze medals (1994 and 2010) at the Winter Games, has collected six World Championship titles (1995, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2011). Moreover, he earned three World Championship silver medals (2000, 2007 and 2009) as well as a bronze medal last year.
