Sochi (RWH) The 46th European Championships organized by the International Luge Federation (FIL) will be held in a race-in-race format this weekend, February 28–March 1, during the ninth and final round in the Viessmann World Cup on the Olympic track in Sochi, Russia. As a result, two sets of race results will be recorded for each discipline, one for the Viessmann World Cup and one for the European Championships. Four athletes per nation will be entitled to compete in both the Viessmann World Cup and the European Championships in the women’s singles, and three doubles duos per nation may compete in both formats. Only in the men’s singles do the numbers per race vary, with five athletes per national association entitled to enter the World Cup, but only four allowed to race in the European Championships. The national associations are therefore required to name their four competitors for the European Championships in advance.
