After the outstanding best time in yesterday´s training, Florian Breitenberger (ITA) again showed his great results on the tight track in Hüttau, gaining his first victory in Natural Track Luge World Cup. Up to now one of his best results included a fourth place, again in Hüttau last year. "I am really into this track. Besides, I had great success in picking the right material", stated Florian Breitenberger after his victory. Five times winning World Cup victor Gerhald Pilz (AUT) was beaten by the young World Cup victor on to the second place. However, the Upper Austrian took over the overall leading in World Cup one week before the sixth and last seasonal race in Zelezniki (SLO), because the so far known leader Ferdinand Hirzegger (AUT) only reached the sixth place. "The weekend concerning the race did not fulfil my wishes. The others did very well today and that was all I could do", explained the 25-year-old athlete. Whereas, Ferdinand Hirzegger will again start his race against Gerhard Pilz the following weekend. "Only 20 points are between us. I really got on well in the training with the new track in Slovenia." The two local matadors Gerald and Roland Kallan (AUT) showed some good races on their well-known track "Höllgrub" and gained the places four and five under the expectations of some fans. Gerald and Roland Kallan themselves left the track with mixed emotions. "I lost a lot of time in one part. The second turn, whereas, was quite satisfactory for me with a new rail", told the Ex-World Cup Winner Gerald Kallan, who still keeps the track record with 1:06.06 minutes. His brother Roland fell back on the fifth place after the second place in the first run.
After four victories of Sonja Steinacher (ITA) in natural track luge World Cup, everybody speculated in Hüttau, Austria, with another triumph by the Italian athlete. The World and European champion only reached fifth place because of her poor second run. The situation of the young Renate Kasslatter (ITA) was similar. After best time in the first run she made a big mistake in the middle part of the track and placed finally on seventh position. But Renate Kasslater will keep the World Cup weekend in Hüttau in good memory because of her dominance in training yesterday, her best run time today and her first points in World Cup ever. "A weekend to forget", stated Sonja Steinacher disappointed. "I don´t know where I have lost so much time in the second run", said the 26-year-old athlete from Klausen. There was also an Austrian runner on the platform in Hüttau. Sandra Mariner (AUT) achieved the second position after a second run without any mistakes. "My first run was a little bit timid. Then I had luck because the times were very close", told Sandra Mariner. Elvira Holzknecht (AUT) did a great second run as well. The World Cup winner from 1997/98 had best time in this scenario, gaining the forth place and merely four hundreds of a second behind Christa Gietl (ITA).Andrzej Laszczak und Damian Waniczek (POL) won the men´s doubleseater competition. Armin and David Mair (ITA) had a great second run but finished only on fourth place. Gerhard Mühlbacher and Harald Kleinhofer (AUT) were disappointed, too. After a crash in training yesterday, they touched the boards today. "We did not reach the ideal line, touched and lost a lot of time", stated the athletes. The final World Cup competition in Zelezniki (SLO) next weekend will be real thrilling because five teams are still able to win the World Cup.
