While in Torino the daily fight for Olympic medals is going on, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen will be a come together of those who still have to make their way into the upper class of competing: the coming weekend the juniors (under 20) will meet to find out who is best.
Not always the medallists of junior Championships are seen again in the World Cup or at senior World Championships. One who definitely already made his way is the runner up of 2004 Junior Worlds, Patrik Pigneter (ITA). With one win and two second places in the current World Cup he also leads the overall ranking. Also bronze medallist of 2004, Philipp Wagner (AUT) has had the one or other top 10 result in the World Cup and is on his way up.
The cousins Christian and Thomas Schopf (AUT) are defending Junior World Champions in the doubleseater event and only to maybe defend the title, Thomas will one last time race as a doubleseater in Garmisch. He already has his career as a single seater, so far with a silver medal in the (senior) European Championships as his best result. Considering that he still is a junior there is a lot more to expect from him in future.
Of the three 2004 medallists in the women´s event only Anna Braun (AUT) can be seen in the World Cup. In the current season she has become more stable and has her spot in the Austrian World Cup team.
Next weekend there will be around 70 young athletes racing for medals and trying to give their best to recommend themselves for future tasks.
