68th FIL Congress now scheduled for November 21/22

Berchtesgaden

Berchtesgaden (RWH) The 68th Congress of the International Luge Federation, FIL, has now been rescheduled for November 21/22, 2020. Berchtesgaden will remain the host. This was decided by the FIL Executive Board in a video conference.

Originally, the annual meeting of the World Luge Federation had been scheduled for June 15-16, 2020 in Berchtesgaden, but then, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was postponed to autumn 2020 without being fixed.

At their meeting, the members of the Executive Board adopted all amendments of the International Luge Regulations (IRO) submitted by the Expert Commissions. According to §13 of the IRO, such measures are permissible in justified cases.

Accordingly, the discipline "women's doubles" will become part of the World Cup as of the 2021/2022 season. The new discipline had celebrated a successful Olympic debut at the Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020. Next winter, there will already be a separate class "women's double-seater" in the junior sector.

The Executive Board discussed in detail the first draft of the new strategic plan and the effects of COVID-19 on the FIL. As a precaution, concepts with different scenarios regarding the seasonal calendar for the coming winter were created. Individual discussions are to be held with the organisers and the national associations, including on risk assessment. The situation will be continuously evaluated by the FIL together with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the other winter sports federations.
