Georg Hackl and Gerhard Pilz inducted into the “Hall of Fame”
Riga (pps) Germany’s Georg Hackl, with three gold medals at Olympic Winter Games still the most successful luger of all times, and Gerhard Pilz from natural track were inducted into the “Hall of Fame” of the International Luge Federation, FIL. This was announced by FIL President Josef Fendt during the 60th Congress of the International Luge Federation in Riga, Latvia. The “Hall of Fame” now includes eight members.
Hackl collected two Olympic silver medals additionally to his three gold and celebrated three World Championship titles. Gerhard Pilz, who is the first athlete of the natural track department in the “Hall of Fame”, is a five-time World Champion, twice he was European Champion and won two times the overall World cup at least.
The other members of the “Hall of Fame” are Vera Zozula (LAT), Margit Schumann (GER), Hans Rinn (GER), Josef Feistmantl (AUT), Klaus Bonsack (GER) and Paul Hildgartner (ITA).
