First indication of the media interest in the Olympic Winter Games
Sochi (pps) The athletes competing in the International Training Week got an impression of the possible media interest in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games that will be staged on the future Olympic track. During the training runs about 300 media representatives visited the “Sliding Center Sanki” on Wednesday and were able to get a glimpse of the imposing competition venue.
Parallel to the International Training Week of the International Luge Federation (FIL), the Organizing Committee of the 2014 Olympic Games had invited to a World Press Briefing. Numerous international news agencies (among them AP, AFP, Reuters, dpa and SID) as well as many journalists from well-known newspapers and media consultants of different National Olympic Committees followed the invitation.
The program on Wednesday included a sight-seeing tour of the so-called “Mountain Clusters”. Divided into five groups, the different facilities were presented. At the “Sliding Center Sanki” the Organisers presented the plans for the press centre and the area designed to accommodate the TV Compound as well as the Mixed Zone area at the track’s exit.
The World Press Briefing participants, among them Kevan Gosper, Chief of the Press Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), visited the sports facilities at the Sochi Olympic Park on Tuesday. On Thursday Dmitry Chernyshenko, President of the 2014 Sochi Organizing Committee, will inform about the state of preparations. The program on Friday then includes different working groups to discuss a variety of issues.
