Kisovec (pps) By cutting a red ribbon, the President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Josef Fendt from Berchtesgaden, has recently opened a new summer start facility for the sport of luge in Kisovec, Slovenia. The project was made possible through the great commitment of numerous volunteers from the local sports club. The site for the start facility was made available by the city of Zagorje ob Savi, to which Kisovec belongs. It is located about 50 kilometers or 31 miles from the capital of Ljubljana at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level.

„This facility is important for the development of both artificial and natural track luge in this region as well as for the Slovenian luge federation in general“, said Fendt at the opening of the start track. Afterwards, the first competition was staged at the new facility with athletes from Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Other guests at the opening included FIL Executive Board member Maria Jasencakova from Slovakia.

With the new summer start track, the Slovenian luge federation intends to improve training conditions for its athletes.
