Wolfgang Schaedler joins Russian team of coaches Moscow (pps) Wolfgang Schaedler of Liechtenstein, whose contract as head coach with USA Luge had not been renewed after 24 years, has found a new job: Already with an eye on the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi (Russia), Schaedler will thus join the Russian team of coaches. Schaedler played a great role in the success of USA Luge – the US team captured its first Olympic luge medals in 1998. After a silver and bronze medal for the doubles’ team with Chris Thorpe-Gordy Sheer and Mark Grimmette-Brian Martin at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, the protégées of Wolfgang Schaedler - Grimmette-Martin as well as Thorpe-Clay Ives - again won the silver and bronze medals in Salt Lake City four years later. Additionally, thanks to his efforts, Erin Hamlin was the first US woman in the history of luge to take the World Championship title.
