Berchtesgaden (pps) The lugers will conclude their 31st season in the
winter of 2007-2008 with a double event of the Viessmann Luge World Cup in
Sigulda, Latvia. Originally Lillehammer in Norway was to host the seventh
Viessmann Luge World Cup. But the 1994 Olympic track was unable to
organise the race. That’s why the Executive Board of the International
Luge Federation, FIL, now decided to conclude the season with a double
World Cup on the 2003 World Championship track in Latvia.
The 31st season of the Viessmann Luge World Cup will start in mid-November
in Lake Placid, USA (November 12-17) and includes a total of eight races
in five different countries on two continents. The season’s highlight are
the 40th World Championships in Oberhof, Germany (January 21-27, 2008).
The new relay competition, successfully tested in the 2006-2007 season,
will be on the World Championship programme for the first time. Another
four relay competitions are scheduled for Lake Placid, Winterberg,
Koenigssee and Sigulda.
