Altenberg (pps) The injury of Russia’s Olympic silver medallist Albert Demchenko is indeed more serious than it seemed. The 2006 European champion crashed badly in training in Oberhof, suffering a broken heel. This was diagnosed after a thorough medical examination. Demchenko’s participation in the 7th Viessmann Luge World Cup event to be carried out in Altenberg on the upcoming weekend (January 20-21, 2007) is jeopardised, his start at the Worlds in Igls, Austria (February 2-4), however, is still within the realm of possibility. According to the Russian delegation, Albert Demchenko will decide when and where he’ll compete again. The 2004-05 overall Viessmann Luge World Cup champion crashed badly in training in Oberhof on January 11. At his own request he was not taken to hospital for subsequent x-rays. In the course of the weekend, however, it turned out that the injury was indeed more serious than it seemed.
