Sigulda (pps). Russia’s Olympic silver medallist Albert Demtschenko won the final race to Viessmann luge World Cup and celebrated his second season’s victory. The European Champion of 2006 in Sigulda (Latvia) in a total time of 1:39,786 minutes banned two times Olympic Champion Armin Zöggeler (ITA, 1:39,853) to rank two. Two times World Champion David Möller (GER, 1:40,337) finished third. As a delight for the fans and organisators in Sigulda, first of all the Latvian President Valdis Zatlers, both Latvian athletes on their home track had the best results in the now ended season of Viessmann luge World Cup. Olympic bronze medallist and European Relay-Champion Martins Rubenis (LAT, 1:40,380) on rank four missed the podium only for about five hundreds of a second, Guntis Rekis (LAT, 1:40,557) finished fifth. Five times World Champion Armin Zöggeler (ITA, 725) with his second rank in the World Cup final of Sigulda won his seventh title in Overall Viessmann luge World Cup. For Olympic-Fifth David Möller (GER, 655), as in the two previous years, it was rank two in Overall World Cup. Albert Demtschenko (454) with his victory in Sigulda also gained third rank in Overall Viessmann luge World Cup. Quotes: Albert Demtschenko (RUS, Olympic silver medallist 2006, European Champion 2006, Overall World Cup Champion 2004/05): „I think with my higher weight, I have an advantage to Armin and David. But also my runs were good and I am happy about the victory. I absolutely hadn’t thought about the Overall World Cup and nearly can’t believe that I am on third rank.” Armin Zöggeler (ITA, Olympic Champion 2002 and 2006, World Champion 1995, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005, European Champion 2004 and 2008, seven times winner of Overall World Cup): „Today the Victory in Overall World Cup was most important for me. The conditions were not perfect but although I had a good race. I do not begrudge the victory to Albert, it was about time for that.” David Möller (GER, Olympic-fifth 2006, World Champion 2004 and 2007, Vice European Champion 2004, rank three at European Championships 2006 and 2008, rank two in Overall World Cup 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08): „I wanted to get a place on the podium here in Sigulda and that had worked. The track is not one of my favourites so I have to practise and to approach to it. The Overall World Cup was Armin’s before the race, I nearly haven’t thought about that.”
