Graz (PMA) Holidays of top athletes look different. The main focus is on training and the athletes of the Natural Track like to challenge themselves also in summer. So did the Styrian squad around Overall World Cup third Michael Scheikl. He and his teammates competed at the Grazathlon in June. “The Grazathlon is an early fitness check in the training season. It is a ten kilometres long obstacle run at the inner-city of Graz. You need a good fitness level, balance, fancy footwork and a lot of power. A real challenge for everyone”, tells Scheikl. He participated alongside his team-mates Christina Götschl, Christian and Andreas Schopf and Bernd Neurauter. Cycling was also a big topic for the Styrian athletes. They participated at the Dreiländergiro, a famous bike race where the athletes have to ride famous climbs in Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Neurauter, Andreas Schopf and Michael Scheikl finished the 120 kilometres long race in 5 hours and 45 minutes. Highlight of the race was the climb at the Passo dello Stelvio. “We are always active in summer and you need a good physical condition in winter. It is always nice to share a holiday for example with a lot of training sessions. Sun and a nice surrounding is a good motivator”, smiles Scheikl. The Styrian squad now participates at the Austrian Summer Cup. Scheikl won the first four races of the season and is looking forward to the start of the World Cup in December.
