Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer in the flow - Eggert/Benecken successful in catch-up race

Park City (FIL/16.12.2022) Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken succeeded in catching up. At the EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup in Park City the German doubles won their second victory this season, their 53rd overall. After the first run they were still in second place. In 1:26,789 minutes the overall World Cup winners of last season had a 33 thousandths of a second advantage over Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf. The Austrians achieved only the third fastest time in 43.321 seconds. However, there is no trace of disappointment among the Tyroleans. "We are still young, this is the third podium we have achieved. That's why we didn't lose gold, but won silver," said Riccardo Schöpf, "for us there is only one thing: gain experience. We went into the second run as leaders for the first time. That's already awesome." Although Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt were slightly faster than Gatt/Schöpf in 43.278, it was enough for them to finish second ahead of their German rivals Wendl/Arlt.
"It was an extremely awesome race," said Toni Eggert, "because in the first run we had a major blunder in the curve combination 13/14 and thus practically threw away the race." But then the duo from Oberhof was able to turn the tide. "If you can show an increase from run one to run two in the race, then that is strong. So I am very satisfied with the race today", Sascha Benecken summed up. Their teammates Wendl/Arlt suffered two slips in the first run. "Third place is due to the first run," said Wendl, "it was definitely a great fight."

The America Pacific Championship was also contested as a race within a race. Zachary di Gregorio and Sean Hollander not only finished fourth in the World Cup standings in 1:27.039 minutes, but also won the title.
In the women's event, Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer repeated their success from the previous week in Whistler. The two Italians achieved the fastest time in both runs. In 1:28.302 seconds they were more than six tenths of a second ahead of Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal (Germany).
World Cup leaders Selina Egle and Lara Kipp dropped back to sixth after posting the second-best time in run one following a slip-up. With a strong second run, Canadians Caitlin Nash and Natalie Corless improved to third place. They thus claimed the title as America Pacific Champions ahead of the US duo Summer Britcher and Emily Sweeney.
