Anniversary celebration for the ice track in Königssee

Festakt Bahn

Königssee (RWH) The artificial ice track in Königssee celebrating its birthday – reason enough for an anniversary party! As part of the Viessmann Luge World Cup on January 5-6, 2019, the German Bobsleigh and Luge Association (BSD) hosted a ceremony in the atmospheric area just outside the “Alte Saline” track in Bad Reichenhall.

BR presenter Willi Willmann hosted the official part of the anniversary celebration, joining contemporary witnesses to reflect on the history of the impressive sports facility. Speakers included Sepp Lenz, a long-time national luge coach who is closely connected with the track, FIL President Josef Fendt, who won his two World Championships on this track, and Hans Plenk, Olympic bronze medallist in 1964, and four years later the German flag bearer for the Olympic team at the Winter Olympics in Grenoble (FRA). Even Klaus Angermann, German TV-Legends and in the very first time closely connected to the track, was interviewed.

Entertainment was provided by the “Sanostra Light Drummers”, who previously gave a spectacular show at the opening ceremony of the 2017 Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championship in Königssee. Following the official part of the event, the BAYERN 1 radio station band played during the barbecue evening.
