Another quadruple triumph for the Austrians

Vierfach-Triumpf Österreich Männer

Oberhof (FIL/15.12.2024) The Austrians are the new force in the EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup. As they did last weekend on their home track in Innsbruck-Igls, they again achieved a quadruple triumph in Oberhof. Only the order is different. This time, Jonas Müller was the fastest in 1:25.321 minutes. The Gleirscher brothers were on the podium with him. Nico (0.235 seconds back) and David (0.515). As in Igls, Wolfgang Kindl (0.556) missed out on the podium in fourth place.

“Positions 1 to 4 - that's just fantastic,” David Gleirscher cheered and recalled past years: ‘The German lugers have been dominant here for so long, now it's our turn.’ In analyzing this dominance, winner Müller had a hard time after his fifth World Cup victory. “It seems as if it's been so easy for us Austrians,” said the 27-year-old, ‘one reason is certainly that we start so well.’ Especially Jonas. As he did a week ago, he also improved the start record to 7.080 seconds in Oberhof. The old record (7.084) had been held by Germany's Moritz Bollmann for almost three years.

Nico Gleirscher had to rub his eyes when he crossed the finish line. First of all, because of the large gaps. “More than six-tenths to the best non-Austrian,” he said in amazement. That non-Austrian was Felix Loch. He was exactly 0.626 seconds behind. He analyzed quite clearly: “The four guys in front seem to be doing everything right at the moment. We, on the other hand, always make a few mistakes. Even with two perfect runs, it wouldn't have worked.” Second, Nico Gleirscher was surprised when he looked at the overall World Cup standings: ‘It's the first time that I'm in the lead.’ He has 231 points, Jonas Müller 225 and Wolfgang Kindl 205.

With a good second run, Latvia's Kristers Aparjods was able to improve by two positions to sixth place (0.835) ahead of Max Langenhan (0.858).
