Shiva Keshavan successfully defended his title Nagano (pps) Shiva Keshavan from India successfully defended his title at the Asian Championships. On the 1998 Olympic track in Nagano (Japan), the 31-year old luger reclaimed the gold medal for the second time in succession at the second edition of the Asian Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL). The silver and bronze medals went to lugers from host Japan, Hidenari Kanayama and Oguchi Takahisa, respectively. The medals were awarded by FIL Vice President for Asia, Jae-Ho Chung from South Korea. Yamaura Yohan of Japan finished fourth and Kim Dong Hyeon of South Korea earned a fifth-place finish. Keshavan, a three-time Olympian, set a new Asian record of 49.590 seconds. A 25th place finish at the 2006 Olympics in Turin is his career-best result. Keshavan presently holds 49th position in the overall Viessmann Luge World Cup rankings.
