Park City (pps) He has always been one of the most dazzling characters of luge and has now celebrated an impressive comeback by finishing third in Park City: Albert Demchenko.
The Russian who likes fast cars, won a European silver medal back in 1996 at Sigulda in Latvia. But when he made no further progress, the soldier switched to sliding on a skeleton for one season and tried his luck in driving a bobsleigh. In the end Demchenko, who will celebrate his 31 st birthday on November 27, returned to luge, finishing fifth at the Salt Lake Olympics. The third place in the World Cup opener in Park City is his best World Cup result ever.
One may look forward to what Albert Demchenko can achieve on his home-track at the 2003 World Championships in Sigulda.
