(ck) In Austria as well as in Turkey the summer months are being used to recruit the future natural track champions. In Austria trial courses were held in five different schools in the regions Mariazell, Aflenz, Thoerl, Buggern and Stadl. So far more than 500 students got to try natural luge. In summer sleds with wheels are being used so that the switch from street luge to ice and snow in winter is made easier. The goal is to found new clubs and reactivate existing ones. The group of coaches who work for this project consists of experienced trainers as well as former athletes, headed by Austria’s natural track head coach Gerald Kammerlander. In Turkey a similar project has been started this summer. After a training camp in Erzerum more than 150 athletes aged 12 to 19 joined new clubs. Head coach was Kayan Yasar, who attended the FIL instructor course in fall 2012.
