Athletes’ Declaration officially endorsed by the IOC Session

Athleten-Declaration

Buenos Aires (RWH) The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has adopted the Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration (Athletes’ Declaration) during the second day of the Session in Buenos Aires. As the IOC announced in a press release, the document was formed with gathering the views and opinions of more than 4,200 elite athletes from 190 countries. Peter van Wees, Chairperson of the IBSF Athletes Committee, is member of the Steering Committee for the Declaration.

The Athletes’ Declaration includes twelve rights and ten responsibilities, exploring topics such as anti-doping, integrity, clean sport, career, communications, governance, discrimination, due process, and harassment and abuse. The fundamental principles, inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other internationally recognised human rights standards, shall be flexible enough to adapt to athletes’ needs across sports and countries.
