Erfurt (pps) Silke Kraushaar-Pielach, 1998 Olympic luge Champion, has given birth to her first son. Together with her husband Michael she is delighted about little Elias. Both Elias and his mother are doing well. Kraushaar-Pielach, honorary citizen of Sonneberg, moved to Erfurt some time ago. Since the end of her career in 2008 she is working as a career advisor at the Olympic Training Center in Oberhof. Silke Kraushaar-Pielach, who achieved five overall Viessmann Luge World Cup victories and is tied with Tatjana Huefner as record-winner, celebrated her greatest success in luge at the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, when she became Olympic Champion. The now 41-year-old additionally won bronze (2002) and silver (2006) medals at Olympic Games. Furthermore she became World Champion in Nagano in 2004. At the 2008 World Championships in Oberhof she competed for the last time, earning the bronze medal.
