Munich (RWH) The Bavarian Prime Minister’s Personal Prize at the Bavarian Sports Awards 2014 has gone to Germany’s luge gold medallists and their team. Prime Minister Horst Seehofer presented the award to Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch, Tobias Arlt and Tobias Wendl (gold both individually in their disciplines and together in the team relay at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia) and to technical coach Georg Hackl und national coach Norbert Loch at a gala in the BMW Welt in Munich. 2014 German Ice Hockey Champion ERC Ingolstadt also won the award.
“The sports world was impressed at the dominance of Germany’s luge athletes during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, but it was in effect the Sonnenschein training group from Berchtesgaden that brought in the historic haul of four gold medals single-handedly,” said Prime Minister Horst Seehofer at the awards ceremony. “This superb team, which has stuck together for years within the strongly competitive world of sports, has earned the Bavarian Prime Minister’s Personal Prize.”
