Berchtesgaden (pps) The training week at the Olympic track for the 2006 Winter Games in Cesana Pariol will now begin only on Friday (November 11, 2005). In the night from Tuesday, November 8, to Wednesday, November 9, the FIL received the information from the office of TOROC Sport Director, Mr. Tullio Paratore, that now a training day can not be provided on November 10.
In the message, it says among other things that TOROC has analyzed all necessary aspects and came to the conclusion that no positive response can be given with regards to November 10 due to operational reasons. The FIL regrets this decision. Ivo Ferriani from TOROC still confirmed to the FIL on Tuesday morning (November 8) that the icing of the track was again almost completed, and as a result, training could begin on November 10 on the part of the track.

At the first athletes’ meeting staged by the FIL in Sigulda (Latvia) prior to the beginning of the Viessmann World Cup series this past weekend (November 5/6, 2005), athletes with the athletes’ representatives Mark Hatton (GBR) and Brian Martin (USA) in front had demanded more training runs, among others for safety reasons.
Thereupon, with initial success, the FIL pleaded for an additional training day, which, however, was cancelled again at short notice. According to the International Luge Regulations, two international training weeks must be held on any future Olympic track. For safety reasons, the first training week in February 2005 was interrupted by the FIL. Toroc argues that demands were met as the track had been available even if the FIL did not take advantage of if. The second international training week is scheduled to take place from Friday, November 11 to Tuesday, November 15.
