Beijing 2022, FIL and IOC postpone test event in Yanqing

YanQing Sliding Center

Berchtesgaden (FIL) Beijing 2022 and FIL jointly decided in a video conference, with the support of the IOC, to postpone the luge test event and the international training week which was planned in February 2021.

The reason for the postponement is the current development of the pandemic with COVID-19. The situation affecting many parts of the world means that travel restrictions are currently in place, and the travel situation is likely to remain complex for the coming months in which the Beijing 2022 test event and training week were scheduled.

Following the latest discussion by all parties, the international training week and the subsequent test event are planned to be held at the Yanqing National Sliding Center (CHN) in autumn 2021.

FIL President Einars Fogelis is certain: “A postponement of our training week and the test event in China is the safest solution for our athletes and the coaches in the current situation. We think that the circumstances will be better in the autumn of 2021, and we saw during the pre-homologation in October 2020 that the track is very well planned and built and that the conditions are excellent even in the fall”.
The FIL is trying to find another venue for the EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup final, which was planned in Yanqing.
