Beijing 2022 - One Year to Go milestone

One Year to Beijing - CAN

St. Moritz (FIL) February 4th, 2021 marks the One Year-to-Go milestone to the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. Luge athletes around the world are preparing to compete at the Olympic Games Beijing 2022.

FIL President Einars Fogelis says: “This winter season was not easy. Many competitions had to be postponed. All athletes, coaches and support staff have to stay in their bubble and are tested at least twice a week. We wear masks all the time, keep distance and follow strict hygiene rules. But we are very happy and healthy so far in this difficult season”.

On February 4th, it will be exactly one year until the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. China has just opened the new Olympic track for the 2022 Winter Games. In October 2020 the pre-homologation with international luge athletes took place.

Einars Fogelis reports: "The pre-homologation in the Yanqing National Sliding Center was very successful. It was a milestone in the development of luge in Asia. It is excellent, the most modern ice track for luge, bobsleigh and skeleton at the moment. The track will set standards in sports development and sustainability. With the new centers in Korea and China, Asia plays a major role in the development of the sport of luge.

I invite all athletes around the globe to prepare for Beijing 2022 – it’s only one year to go. The Olympic Games will unite the whole world in peaceful competition after we all have overcome the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stay strong and stay healthy – it’s only one year we meet again”.
