Sochi (pps) The President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Josef Fendt from Berchtesgaden, Germany, expressed his praise for the new venue of the combined bobsleigh and luge track for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, which is to be built in Rzhanaya Polyana. „I like it“, said the former World Champion after his return from a two-day inspection trip together with a delegation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). „The new venue is not far from Krasnaya Polyana, the center of outdoor events, and is well embedded in other venues”, explained Fendt, who was accompanied by FIL Secretary General Svein Romstad.

The IOC delegation was headed by Jean-Claude Killy (FRA), the chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission for Sochi and three-time Olympic champion in skiing in 1998. The IOC delegation also met the two Deputy Prime Ministers, Dmitry Kozak and Alexander Zhukov. With this, the Russian government underlined the great importance that is already attached to the first Winter Games in Russia.

Dmitry Kozak, special representative of the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, emphasized again that the funding of all required measures is ensured despite the international economic crisis.
