43rd FIL Luge Worlds in Altenberg the winter highlight 2011-2012 Berchtesgaden (pps) Calgary will host the 3rd Viessmann Luge World Cup on December 16-17, 2011. This decision was taken by the Executive Committee of the International Luge Federation, FIL, in Berchtesgaden thus completing the Sports Calendar for the upcoming season. Highlight of the 2011-2012 season are the 43rd FIL Luge World Championships in Altenberg, Germany. The recently modernized artificially-refrigerated track will host the luge Worlds for the second time after 1996 on February 11-12, 2012. The European champions will then be crowned on the first Russian artificially-refrigerated track in Paramonovo on February 25-26, 2012. The Sports Calendar comprises a total of nine Viessmann Luge World Cup events For the first time, the Calendar features the Youth Olympic Games, YOG, which will be carried out in Innsbruck (AUT) on January 13-22. Additionally, the young luge talents will have the chance to compete in six junior World Cup events. The new season in the Viessmann Luge World Cup will kick off on the Olympic luge track in Innsbruck-Igls on November 26-27, 2011. Next on the programme are two stops in Canada – starting off with Whistler (December 9-10, 2011), venue of the 44th FIL Luge World Championships in 2013, and followed by Calgary (December 16-17). After the Christmas break the World Cup series then moves to Germany with stops in Koenigssee (January 5-6, 2012), Oberhof (January 14-15, 2012) and Winterberg (January 21-22, 2012). The naturally refrigerated luge track in St. Moritz, Switzerland, will then welcome the luge elite (January 28-29, 2012) for the first time since the Worlds in 2000. After the season’s highlight in Altenberg follow the Viessmann Luge World Cup event in Sigulda, Latvia (February 18-19, 2012) as well as the European Championships in Paramonovo, which additionally attains World Cup status.
