
Can Pigneter/Clara win Overall World Cup in Deutschnofen
Deutschnofen (PMA) - Deutschnofen hosts the fifth and penultimate Luge World Cup on Natural Track of the season from 29th to 31st of January. The decisive phase of the World Cup starts and the race is scheduled on the last weekend before the 26th European Championships, which are held at Passeier.
Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara have won four out of four races this season. They are unbeaten and return to Deutschnofen, where they have won in 2009, 2012 and 2015. With a victory or a second place the can win the Overall World Cup at the penultimate round.
At the singles event there will be no decision at the overall standings. Pigneter and Evelin Lanthaler are leading before the race weekend at Deutschnofen. At the women's event Ekaterina Lavrentyeva will be the favourite. She won the last World Cup race at Moscow and is unbeaten at Deutschnofen. She celebrated victory at every World Cup race held at the Pfösl-Riep track. Alex Gruber of Italy is the last year's winner at the men's competition. He leaded an Italian one-two-three.
The qualification runs and the competition run of the doubles event is scheduled on Saturday. On Sunday there will be the decisive runs at the men's and women's competition.
